Internet Update File Column Definitions And Examples
Variety
This is the predominant grape variety or blend as appears on the wine's label.

Examples: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot.

For blended varieties, use / between the basic varieties. Always use full names like Cabernet Sauvignon rather than shortened names like Cabernet.

Spelling is very important. For example, if you use the misspelled word Chardonay, (rather than Chardonnay) this will create a new variety category in Wine Cellar II and your wines will not appear with other Chardonnay wines.

Brand
Most wineries have more than 1 brand.

Examples: Felton Road, Felton Road Private Bin and Felton Road Reserve.

It is important to use your winery name in the brand as only the brand name is displayed and not the winery name.

Web Site
We already have your web site address, but this field allows you to specify an alternative web site for a particular brand. For example the Corbans web site is www.corbans.co.nz, but the Stoneleigh brand has it's own web site at www.stoneleigh.co.nz.

Example: www.brandname.co.nz

If you do not have any brand specific web sites, leave this field blank.

Region
Enter the primary region of the wine's grapes as appears on the label.

Examples: Marlborough or Hawkes Bay.

You should only specify the primary region for blended wines as Wine Cellar II does not yet support multiple regions for a wine.

Country
Enter the country of the region.

Example: New Zealand.

Vintage
Vintage of the wine. The number must be 4 digits.

Examples: 1999 or 2000.

This field can be left blank for non-vintage wines.

Retail Price
Current retail price of the wine.

Examples: 9.95 or 19.50.

Standard Size
The standard bottle size (ml) that the retail price applies to.

Examples: 750 for most wines or 375 for desert wines.

Drink Start
Drink Start - The earliest year the wine can be consumed.

Examples: 1999 or 2000.

Drink End
The latest/peak year of wine development during which the wine is ideally consumed.

Examples: 2001 or 2008.

Score
The 100-point rating is used by most wine competitions and magazines. The maximum score is 100; the minimum is 50.

Example: 80

Do not enter a value unless this has been confirmed by a wine authority.

QR
The 5-star quality rating is used by most wine competitions and magazines. The maximum score is 5.0; the minimum is 0.5. Ratings must be divisible by 0.5.

Example: 4.0

Do not enter a value unless this has been confirmed by a wine authority.

WR
The 7-point wine makers rating is assigned by the winery to rate a wine relative to other vintages of the same wine. The maximum is 7; the minimum value is 1.

Example: 6 for an Excellent year or 4 for an Average year.

Food Match
Simply type in foods separated by commas.

Examples: roast beef, BBQ eye fillet or fish and seafood.

Organic
The organic indicator can be either Yes if the wine is organic or No or blank if the wine is not organic.

Example: Yes or No

Bar Code
The EAN-13 bar code is usually on the wine's label.

Example: 9416025096545.

Name
This is the author of the tasting note as you wish it to appear when viewing notes for a wine. If you enter multiple tasting notes for a wine, each must have a different date or name.

Example: John Felton.

Date
This is the date of the tasting note as you wish it to appear when viewing notes for a wine. If you enter multiple tasting notes for a wine, each must have a different date or name.

When changing tasting notes for a wine, you can insert new notes into the Internet Update file rather than overwriting existing notes. It is then possible to see the wine's development over time.

Example is: 02-Jan-00

Note
You can enter any tasting note or information about the wine.

Example: Full bodied, dry and fragrant, this is an excellent Chardonnay from a superior vintage. The crisp acidity and full body are complimented by tropical fruit and honey flavours. Fifty percent of the blend was fermented in French Oak (25% new) for 12 months. Although drinking nicely now, it will mature well over the next 3 years.

There is no limit to the length of a note.

If you are adding notes from other sources (e.g. wine reviews by wine writers) please ensure you have permission to reproduce the text.
